Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 4, 2026

Claire is a calm, AI-assisted email client for Gmail, available on Mac, web, and iPhone. This policy explains what data Claire accesses, where it goes, and what we do — and don't — do with it. Plain language, no surprises.

The short version

1. Your Google account & Gmail data

When you sign in with Google, Claire requests permission to access your Gmail, calendar, and basic profile so it can show, organize, and send your mail. The specific permissions and why each is needed are listed on our Permissions page.

Email content (messages, attachments metadata, labels) is fetched from Google's API directly to the app on your device and displayed there. Claire's servers do not receive or store your email content, except for the two specific, limited purposes below.

2. Where data leaves your device

a) Push notifications (Cloudflare)

To notify you of new mail in real time, Claire stores — in Cloudflare's encrypted key-value storage, isolated per account — your OAuth refresh token (encrypted) and a Gmail sync marker. When new mail arrives, our notification service uses this to fetch only the metadata needed for the notification (such as sender and subject) and deliver it to your devices. It does not retain your message bodies.

b) Cross-device settings sync (Cloudflare)

So your to-dos and snooze/reminder times stay consistent across your devices, Claire syncs those small settings values (timestamps keyed to your email address) through the same encrypted storage. This contains scheduling metadata, not email content.

c) AI features (opt-in)

Claire's AI summaries and the daily briefing are optional and only run when you enable them:

d) Diagnostics (Sentry)

If enabled, Claire reports crashes and errors (stack traces and technical context) to Sentry so we can fix bugs. These reports are not intended to include the contents of your email. We are actively working to strip any incidental personal data from diagnostics.

3. What we store on your device

4. What we never do

Claire's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

5. Deleting your data

You can sign out at any time to clear local data, and revoke Claire's access from your Google Account permissions. To purge the server-side items (your encrypted token and settings-sync values), see our Data Deletion page.
